When Waukesha planners
sat down together to hash
out how Minooka Dog
Exercise Area should look,
there can be little doubt
that they took the time to
visit other dog parks.
They must have asked
many questions of dog
owners about what they
would like to see in a dog
park and what they wanted
never to see again. The
most striking example of
this forethought is the fact CLICK HERE FOR PARK NOTICES
that Minooka Dog Park is
actually split into two dog parks. One “lobe” of the dog exercise area is reserved
for small breeds and is completely fenced off from the other larger lobe which is for
the big dogs. Another innovation was simply to reserve one gate for the entrance
and one for exit which prevents the many confusing situations that crop up at
other dog parks. Also there are no benches in the immediate area of the gates. As
any veteran dog park goer will tell you, many dogs are reluctant to allow new dogs
to enter the park and will defend the gate area if the owners are tempted to sit there
instead of moving further into the park. Also also, just inside and just outside of
the gates are cement patios, areas notorious for becoming big muddy messes.
Also also also, there is an honest to goodness fully enclosed and roofed man and
woman restroom for humans complete with urinal (on the men’s side), toilet tissue
and water-free hand sanitizer dispenser. I’m not afraid to say it: Waukesha’s
Minooka Dog Exercise Area is a dog park born from the correction of the mistakes
of previous dog parks. P.S. Click Here to view a picture of the payment envelope.
