Mitchell Dog Exercise Area
in Brookfield looks as if the
land was reclaimed from a
disused baseball field. I’m
not certain of that but if you
look at the satellite view you
can see a resemblance. The
open field just inside the
entrance could have been a
baseball diamond while the
outline of the park roughly
matches the rest of a ball
park. Whether or not
Mitchell Dog Exercise Area
was a baseball park, it is
currently a pleasant and well maintained dog park. The Mitchell dog park is located
within the larger Mitchell Park proper. Mitchell Park Drive, the road that runs through
the park, will lead you the dog exercise area. The main trail had only one muddy
area while the rest was well covered with grass and wood chips. The east side of
the park has a stand of tall trees where I noticed a large red tailed hawk watching the
dogs in that curious way that a cat will watch fish in a fish bowl. It flew away without
causing any mischief. I noticed there is no gate at the entrance. While I was there
taking video, a woman lost control of her dog. It ran straight out to the parking lot
where another woman’s two dogs chased after it. They almost ran into the street
just as a pickup truck raced by. This park might not be for dogs that don’t come
when you call them. Otherwise, the people were friendly and my dogs were
ecstatic to be at the Mitchell Dog Exercise Area. I revisited Mitchell April 9th 2010.
